The Last Dinner Party, a band comprising of female and non-binary members, released the acoustic version of their hit single ‘Nothing Matters’ on February 16th . After the success of their debut album ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’, and the end of their popular acoustic mini tour, this new well received band marked their triumph by gifting fans this song in its original acoustic form.
The song begins and ends with the instruments stripped back with the absence of excessive effects creating a more intimate space reminiscent of a renaissance of music in its pure form. With everything surrounding the whimsical lyrics toned down, it allows the listener to truly recognise that this is a beautiful love song which could often be disguised and forgotten in the ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’ version of ‘Nothing Matters’ where people were so overcome by its blasting drum and killer guitar solo, they failed to fully absorb the songs vulnerable meaning. When ‘Nothing Matters’ takes an acoustic spin fans can fully take the dream laced lyrics in.

This version of ‘Nothing Matters’ completely changes the atmosphere the original song created. Before the single was still full of a strong sense of revelry where you just wanted to frolic barefoot in a summer-stained forest as the trees danced in the breeze, however now it feels much more like dancing under a full moon lost within the soul of another.
Lyrics like ‘I put my heart inside your palms’ feel much more apparent in the acoustic version as listeners are forced to consume the cherished lyrics. Lizzie Mayland’s vocals are also more apparent during the bridge of the acoustic version whilst they seamlessly blend with Abigail Morris’ powerhouse voice in an ethereal harmony. This creates the message that the feeling of uncontrollable love is a universal experience which could be relatable to the listener. Aurora Nishevci’s staccato keys in the bridge only further immerse the listener amongst the festivities of newfound love and infatuation.
With a greater focus on vocals in the acoustic version of ‘Nothing Matters’ an even more coven like feeling is created within the chorus due to the bands louder witchy chants. This allows the other band members voices to meld with Morris’ haunting tones and create a cacophony of a sirens call.
Go and give ‘Nothing Matters (Acoustic)’ a listen to take the mystical journey through the world of The Last Dinner Party again. You can also purchase a limited edition crystal clear 7” vinyl from the band’s official store now.
