Grieving set to release their album ‘Everything Goes Right, All At Once’ on March 15th.

Powerful, gut-wrenching, electric. These are three words I would use to describe the up and coming band ‘Grieving’ and their debut album ‘Everything Goes Right, All At Once.’ After gaining support from many big names in the music industry and even gaining airtime on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 6, the Cambridge four piece are ready to delight the music industry with their unique, 200s-eque, pop punk sound.

‘Grieving’ are able to masterfully incorporate elements of early emo and anthemic late 90’s music with their modern, more indie flair, making their album a perfect reflection of their musical influences, as well as expressing their own personality through the forging of a unique sound. It is clear that the band worked very tirelessly on this album due to how well each track fits together. Each song is clearly its own work of art, however all are linked by an aggressive juxtaposition between striking, vivacious instrumentals and well thought out, almost poetic lyrics.

As a precursor to the album, the band have released a smashing track named ‘Tarpaulin’ which, although not my favourite on the album as a whole, is a brilliant introduction to the type of vibe ‘Grieving’ are successfully achieving with their music. Their bassist Jack Hurst notes that, for him, this song is about “personally approaching a sense of self-doubt, and accepting that certainty in life is rarely exactly that.” and honestly, I think this is a perfect description. The song is full of languorous twanging guitars and rapsing vocals similar to bands like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, that, for me, really forces a feeling of liminality and uncertainty that I believe everyone can relate to.

When talking about ‘Grieving’ music magazine ‘Kerrang’ wrote “Sometimes – though it feels rarer and rarer – a song, or a band if you’re lucky, just pops out of the ether and hits you with a punch that feels like a kiss, and that’s it, it’s love…”. In regard to this album, it is totally true. ‘Everything Goes Right, All At Once’ is an album that will take you aback completely, punch you hard with hard hitting lyricism and powerful instruments, and leave you feeling all the better for
it.
