Sophia Alexa set to release new single ‘Losing By A Landslide’

Sophia Alexa, a London based singer songwriter, is set to release her new indie-folk single ‘Losing by a Landslide’ on March 22nd to the excitement of her fans. The song tells the harrowing story of feeling trapped from the rest of your peers in the whirlwind of your twenties. This time in your life is universally romanticised to the point where your younger self dreams of reaching this magical age where you supposedly find your sound and your people, however sometimes this isn’t the case. ‘Losing by a Landslide’ makes the listener feel seen in a cacophony of songs only documenting the pleasures of life in your twenties where in reality this doesn’t actually resonate with most people.

The single begins with a delicate guitar serenading the listener, reminiscent of a wind-chime caught in the summer breeze. With this calm tone we are soon met with the lyrics, ‘I’m sick into my stomach, holding conversations with the moon’ which present the feeling of being consumed by suffocating loneliness where the only other constant in your life is the night sky. The verse continues the theme of isolation into the words, ‘deep into the evening, is when I start believing every lie’. Sophia conveys here the image of our mind beginning to play tricks on us amongst our deadly isolation, forcing us to relive past nightmares and
obsess over what could have been.

‘Losing by a Landslide’ then enters its pre-chorus, ‘I’m feeling so left out in a twenty-
something drought’. This paints the picture of not always experiencing the perfect night out where the music makes sense, and your eyes sparkle for that one special person under the stars. That’s just a fantasy for most people, a film they’ve watched before but have never experienced because this picture-perfect life isn’t real. Sophia holds the listener’s hand here and guides them through their emptiness into a crowd of people who feel the exact same way.

As the listener is blessed with the chorus the tranquil guitar is joined by a pounding
drumbeat, elevating the song into something you just want to dance too despite the
heartbreaking lyrics, ‘I’ve been losing by a landslide now I’m so scared of feeling like I’m missing out’. This moment perfectly captures the essence of being stuck on the outskirts from the people you feel like you should understand. You’re terrified of your loneliness, but you just don’t seem to fit in anywhere. Even when you do finally put yourself out there you just feel lost in a sea of seemingly content people, you feel like the outsider behind the inside joke, you feel alone.

After another instrumentally stripped back verse of saddening but relatable lyrics and a killer chorus we are met with the singles bridge in a kaleidoscope of emotions. The lyrics, ‘and I’m too far gone, it’s comforting sadness, I guess’. Sophia explores how emotional turmoil can sometimes feel so natural here. The artist continuously creates a safe space for her listeners where they feel heard and accepted in a world so content with chaos. Sophia herself has said,  “A lot of what I do is self-discovery,” Sophia continues, with songwriting a way for her to figure out the how’s and whys of what she’s going through. “It’s me trying to process how I’m feeling, and figure out my place in the world,” she adds. “I hope I’m able to put into words what other people are going through as well.”

So go and give Sophia Alexa’s ‘Losing by a Landslide’ a listen and immerse yourself into her comforting and relatable world. You can also go and visit her at London’s George Tavern for the regular gig night she hosts named ‘Stories Behind The Song’ where she showcases emerging talent so you will most certainly find something new and wonderful to feast your ears with as we anticipate what comes next for this talented artist.
