VENUS GRRRLS’ latest single will leave you awestricken

by Willow Marie

Leeds based gothic-grunge quintet VENUS GRRRLS recently released their newest single ‘Bloodsick’, and it is one of their heaviest tracks yet. The band are certainly feeding their adoring fans, after having released their last single ‘Divine’ back in January and playing their hometown headline gig at Brudenell Social Club in February. We can’t wait for what comes next in the world of VENUS GRRRLS.

‘Bloodsick’ is a beautifully written track, and is perfectly embellished by GK’s unique vocals. The song carries a very riot-grrrl-esque sound, and an incredibly meaningful message – “Bloodsick describes a change, or a metamorphosis of a being that has become far more insular and isolated” GK says of the track, “It is a grief of what once was, that transcends into a bittersweet liberation of a new body, or way of living both physically and emotionally.” It is undoubtable that this intense tune will be a crowd favourite at all of their future shows, and rightly so. The lyricism of ‘Bloodsick’, and of the band’s whole discography is just out of this world.

“Shine a light on my skin And see what lies beneath My blood is thick and heavy It’s bursting out of me”

Alongside the release of this track, VENUS GRRRLS also announced their first ever headline UK tour, spanning across 8 dates in September. The tour is partnered with a stem cell transplant charity called Anthony Nolan. Anthony Nolan uses its register of 900,000 people to match potential stem cell donors to blood cancer and blood disorder patients in need of stem cell transplants. All shows on the 8-date run will have Anthony Nolan volunteers present to provide more information about stem cells, their role in treating AML via transplant and the importance of people aged 16-30 signing up to the stem cell register.
