Paris Paloma creates a battle-cry of feminism with her new release ‘LABOUR (the cacophony)’

by Elsa Commander

On March 29th, Paris Paloma, a singer/songwriter from Derbyshire, England released an earth-shattering version of her viral song, ‘Labour.’ The original recording, which was released a year previously, focuses on the shared struggles that all women have faced throughout history.

This year, to celebrate a year of ‘Labour’, Paloma asked fans to record their own voices for a re-release of the song. They would be put together to build a ‘cacophony’ that would become an untameable force of a song unlike anything else released this year.

The song begins with an intense roar of feminine voices that burn with anger and energy. They set light to the song without delay, and flare with a deep, wild sense of determination that instils itself in the song immediately. The drums resonate like thunderclaps, setting a heavy, battle-ready marching pace. The unwavering war-cry of women and people globally drills hard into your soul and can shake you to the core.

The chorus is a forest-fire of burning outrage that bursts in with relentless energy and anger. The ‘cacophony’ is heard, pounding and formidable in the background, creating a crescendo as the song reaches its climax, and the bass thrums and supports the perfect tumult of the song.

The anger with which the visceral phrase ‘24/7 baby machine’ is cried out by hundreds of voices leaves a real feeling of innate passion and a need for feminine justice in the listener’s heart. The heartbreaking lyric ‘It’s not an act of love if you make her’ has even more of an impact than it did in the previous recording, the thunderous chorus of voices allowing the fiery impact of the words to remain long after the song has ended.

Thankfully, Paloma’s phenomenal songwriting has created what is essentially a song that can never end. Its timeless themes and lyrics are immortalised by Paloma’s talent and the mass of people (female and otherwise) drawn to their raw, visceral lyricism and her power-drenched sound.

Paloma has outdone herself with this track, having brought together a bombardment of feminine power that will live on forever. ‘LABOUR (the cacophony)’ is out now on all platforms, and Paloma is releasing their debut album ‘Cacophony’ on August 30th 2024.
