Gig Review: WRKHOUSE

by Ceirios Bebb

Celebrating the release of their first EP Out of the blue, are Wrkhouse have finished off their first tour in south Wales’ renowned venues, LePub and Porters. The four took to the stage with Lewys Meredydd Siencyn on vocals and guitar, Iestyn Jones on drums, Ioan Bryn on guitar and Gethin Elis on bass and keys. They were also joined by the talented Sam Brockett on sax, bass and backing vocals which added powerful sounds to the live performance.

Opening for the night at LePub were local bands Good Things and Cyn Cwsg who released their first Welsh language singles earlier this year. Though their sets were short, they set the mood and caught everyone’s attention. Supporting in porters were solo artist Freyja Elsy and band Ffenest, Freyja Elsy brought us a dramatic synth driven set whilst Ffenest gave us the chill indie energy the perfect combination of styles as Wrkhouse gives us a combination of the exciting electronic sounds and groovy indie guitars.

With an exciting bilingual set Wrkhouse entertained the crowd with all songs from their new EP including singles ‘snow’ and ‘getaway’ starting the set with Byw a bod, a vibey and lively start to the show. Halfway through, they switched things up with a cover of Motion sickness by Phoebe Bridgers. They carried the energy through the gig effortlessly with vibrant tracks, zestful synths and dynamic guitar riffs that make you want to move and dance. The band really brought their EP to life with the chill yet energetic live performance. Giving an electrifying insight to their first EP Wrkhouse captivated the audience with their impressive live sound.

Out of the blue from Wrkhouse is out now.
