Hypsoline, an indie band hailing from Brighton, released their song ‘Same Love’ on April 19th which is to be the third and final single from their upcoming EP ‘Nights Like These’. ‘Same Love’ portrays the emotional turmoil that comes with a relationship dying even though your love for the person never did, shining a more positive light on the concept of a breakup creating a moment of catharsis for the listener to revel in.
The single opens with a powerful baseline which is soon met with pounding drums and a killer electric guitar giving the song a beat you just want to move too right as the song starts. Soon Hypsoline bestow upon the listener the lyrics, ‘ever since I met you baby there’s a feeling I can’t shake’ which mirror the start of a relationship when your love is blossoming and everything feels so exciting and pure. It’s in the springtime of your newfound love that you forget all your past pain and regrets, and this allows you to fully bask in the sunlight of your new partner.
Listeners are then greeted by the chorus in a cacophony of vigorous base, booming drums and a satisfying guitar riff. This is mixed flawlessly with the breathy voice of vocalist and guitarist Beth Molly Moore taking centre stage whilst the siren-like vocals of Trilby White draw the listener in from the distance.
Soon we enter the second verse which house standout lyrics, ‘I watch us drifting further apart a bit further each day’ which convey when the end seems inevitable as the relationship breaks down, you may still love this person and this person may still love you, but this chapter of your life is drawing to a close.
‘Same Love’ then greets listeners with a bridge full of relentless drumbeats and a punchy baseline before the song ends with the chorus once more echoing the end of a relationship. The single is truly addictive as not only is it a powerhouse song, but it also tells a fresh story. ‘Same Love’ presents the listener with the story of a healthy breakup in a time of heartbreak songs being about toxic relationships and screaming in the rain. This song paints the picture of a breakup engraved with mutual respect and love for one another even if you are no longer each other’s person.
So go and give ‘Same Love’ a listen to be taken on the whirlwind journey of a relationship as we anticipate Hypsoline’s upcoming EP.
