Peter Bibby’s new album ‘Drama King’ is nothing short of outstanding

Peter Bibby, Australian troubadour and singer songwriter, comes to us his fourth studio album “Drama King”, releasing in May 2024, marking his first album release since September 2020 with his album ‘Marge’. In that time, Bibby has released a handful of singles such as ‘Fun Guy’ and ‘Terracotta Brick’ but nothing as impactful as the myriad of emotions conveyed in ‘Drama King’.

The album grapples with topics such as addiction, love, loss and even a song from the perspective of a wheely bin, so there’s something for everyone. Known for his distinctive voice and storytelling capabilities, Bibby continues making his mark in the Australian music scene with his exquisite collection of songs, expanding himself with ‘Drama King’.

This album is a collaboration with producer, Dan Luscombe, who is known for his work with other esteemed Australian artists such as Amyl and the Sniffers and the Drones among others. Luscombe is notorious for pushing artists past their creative confines and this is evident within ‘Drama King’ as Bibby embraces his rough cut, gritty style and shows himself warts and all.

Bibby’s lyrical talent is evident throughout the album with lyrics such as “I’m going to be filled up with your filth…but lady I’m a reflection of you,” from his song, ‘Bin Boy’ and “You’re the hair of the dog, the dog that bit me” from ‘Terracotta Brick’ among other songs on the album. He uses his vulnerability and lyrical prowess to encapsulate the listener and that is an impressive feat.

Overall, “Drama King” cements Peter Bibby’s reputation as an extremely authentic voice in the Australian music scene. His blend of humour and musical rawness creates an album that is engaging and thought-provoking. Fans of Bibby’s previous work will find much to love here, while newcomers will appreciate the unfiltered honesty and vulnerability with layers upon layers to decode, providing an album you can listen to over and over.
