BEX, Guildford punk singer-songwriter, has recently released her newest single ‘Fight’, and it’s an absolute banger. Despite only having released two singles since her debut EP ‘Scum’, BEX has managed to keep her fans well-fed with content, from lyric teasers to riveting gig clips. Then again, we’re sure that all fans are exhilarated to finally have this new heavy tune grace their ears! Read on to see how BEX has woven together such a beautifully rage-filled anthem.
‘Fight’ begins with a heavy cacophony of instruments and BEX’s raspy yet addictive vocals uttering the lyrics ‘You make me sick, so sick and weak. You make me sick, so sick, I can’t compete!’. The song details the utterly gut-wrenching pain of being cheated on by a disloyal partner and channels the intense rage that accompanies the experience. According to BEX: “If you’ve ever been cheated on and felt the embarrassment, then this track is for you!”
The chorus is extremely well crafted and it is almost certain that it will be rooted in your mind for weeks after listening – not that we’re complaining! BEX’s ability to express such fury and emotional turmoil in this poetic and evocative style is incredibly impressive and reflects the beauty of her punk-rock artistry. The lyrics ‘Say you’re gonna love me, even though you hurt me, no fair, it’s not fair. Make me sick but I live with it, no, I don’t care.’ perfectly sum up the conflict within the heart during times like BEX’s, and are sure to bring about some deep and wrathful emotions (which you can let out and head-bang away in the crowd at one of her few upcoming shows!)
A passionate chant of ‘Fight!’ appears repeatedly throughout the track, keeping up that rightfully tempestuous theme. As the song progresses, the music slowly builds up into a compellingly mosh-able beat, the intensity of BEX’s vocals increasing every second. It is undeniable that the lyricism of this song took a lot of sweat and tears to construct – ‘I used to want you before I knew, I used to want you before I got misused. Cast your love aside, I’m pushing for a different kind, cast me out of your mind!’
Overall, we strongly urge you to stream this banger, and be sure to catch the ‘Fight’ music video premiere on June 10th – see you there!
