Lost in Translation, a Manchester based band who fuse together pop, rock and funk in their electric music, recently released their third single ‘DWYT’ on June 8th to the excitement of their growing fanbase. ‘DWYT’ is a song fuelled by uncertainty and regret, a concept relatable to most listeners as overthinking whether it was right that a relationship ended is such a universal experience especially when you were never given closure.

The single opens with a punchy drumbeat and a catchy guitar riff making the song instantly memorable and exciting. Frontman Tom Bellerby’s gravely vocals bring an intensity and heightened emotions to the standout lyrics, ‘cause she said don’t waste your time on me.’ This moment perfectly conveys when the person you love doesn’t see themselves the way that you view them, so their insecurities force the relationship apart as they don’t feel worthy of the love that they really do deserve. This is the type of breakup that will haunt you for years to come as your love never truly died and the relationship ended in such an abrupt and confusing way. This causes you to forever be walking through life like a ghost in limbo, wondering if you could have handled things differently and where you would be now if you had done.

‘DWYT’ bursts open into the lyrics, ‘and I find myself just rambling on. I can’t let it go’ which portrays when you can’t stop over analysing the situation you’re in as you’re unsure of how it really ended and how you’re supposed to go on without all the answers from the person who’s love you crave. You can’t escape how you feel but desperately want to not be a burden and close the door on this chapter in your life even though you feel as if the story shouldn’t be over. The single closes with a bang in a haze of euphoria whilst the satisfying guitar riff and beautifully relentless drums fade out.

Sonically ‘DWYT’ is extremely fun and really amps up the listener whilst lyrically it is completely heartbreaking. So, if you are craving a bittersweet feeling then the angst which laces ‘DWYT’ makes it the perfect song for you. So, add it to your summer playlist and go and listen to ‘DWYT’ and Lost in Translation’s other two singles if you like amazing bands.
