Live Review: CMAT @ SWG3, Glasgow

‘Cathartic’ would be the most appropriate word to describe CMAT’s performance at Glasgow Weekender. The rising Irish sensation and her band gathered onstage on Saturday night with an encouraging backing from the crowd as she presented Glasgow with her unmatched humour and unhinged dance routines with band mates.

The guitar-shredding performer opened her set with a band, featuring songs such as ‘Nashville’, ‘I Don’t Really Care For You’, and ‘No More Virgos’ from her debut album ‘If My Wife New I’d Be Dead’, alongside tracks from her latest drop: ‘Crazymad, For Me’ while noting that Glasgow is her favourite city.

A mere few songs in, it became evident that CMAT celebrates individuality and character as nearly every song concluded with her and her band on the floor, within the crowd or even having the whole crowd dance and sing along with her. Hit single, ‘I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby!’, CMAT’s most acclaimed track, had the entirety of the crowd performing ‘The Dunboyne County Meath Two-Step’ as she refused to sing any longer until everyone took part.

CMAT proved that she is an artist worthy of recognition and enthusiasm, which she she has certainly gained, as despite her slot in Glasgow being a support for Scottish band ‘Belle and Sebastian’, fans arrived from far and wide adorned in cowboy hats and boots. The Dublin based star continues to prove herself show after show, release after release, as heard in her latest single ‘Aw, Shoot!’

There is simply no one doing it like CMAT.
