Stella Scholaja releases iconic new single ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ celebrating the power of womanhood

Stella Scholaja, an upcoming pop singer songwriter, is set to release the iconic title track from her debut album ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ on August 23rd just before summer draws to a close. ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ spins the tale of a powerful woman who recognises her worth and is not afraid to take back what the world is constantly trying to steal from her. With an addictive 80’s synth and Stella’s seductive vocals the single feels reminiscent of greats like Madonna and Chappel Roan. This gives ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ the nostalgic feel and sound of a club after midnight with all your friends, glitter and rhinestones drawing constellations across your eyelids whilst you’re drunk on your own power and dancing for no one but yourself. Stella might claim to ‘ruin your life’ but you will most definitely be thanking her for it as soon as you hear this masterpiece.

The single opens with that addictive 80’s synth and a driving beat that immerses the listener into the euphoric atmosphere right from the first note. However, lyrically the song is laced with frustration and injustice whilst Stella carefully recounts the story of the first black woman to win Miss America only for her title to be stripped from her. The lyrics, ‘whether she shows her body or not, whether she gives more then she’s got’ begs the question of why is it so scandalous for women to embrace their bodies when men continuously sexualise them for a body that they can’t control anyway? Stella beautifully conveys how women are either sexualised or shamed by men, all the while nobody ever tells them how to look or how to feel. Here Stella takes back that power, exciting her listeners and encouraging them to do what they want with their own bodies as it is their body so therefore their choice.

Soon we enter the chorus which is home to the lyrics, ‘I might ruin your life if you let me in’ which portray the inner monologue of a dangerous woman who holds all the power. She is the siren in a storm, enchanting men to swim into her pearl-laced shaws only to drown them in her love and beauty. This temptress delights in her strength which leads into the powerhouse lyrics in the second verse, ‘why would I do what you want me to do I’m no fool I’m to good for you.’ This moment conveys how she knows that she doesn’t need to bow down to someone solely because they’re a man as she is probably much smarter and more attractive anyway. This confidence is one of the most powerful thoughts a woman can have, encouraging listeners to stand up for their own rights also.

My personal favourite moment in the single is the exhilarating outro which ends the song on a high with the deeply superior lyrics, ‘she ain’t fragile like a flower, she’s fragile like a bomb.’ This poetic moment celebrates the beauty of female rage, applauding women when they embrace their anger and don’t shy away from their wild. ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ is truly an anthem of girlpower, that refreshingly doesn’t depict women as the demure and submissive stereotype that men force upon them but rather tells the truth that women do have minds and are strong and that the power of girlhood shouldn’t be controlled by men but rather feared by them. ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ is for the girls who crave the nostalgia of an 80’s synth under a disco ball. For the girls who know their own worth. For the girls who romanticise the idea of stardom. ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ is for the girls who revel in the power that they possess.

So go and give ‘Sexy, Insane & Might Ruin Your Life’ a listen as soon as it comes out and become obsessed with both the lore of this talented artist’s upcoming debut album and Stella Scholaja for the icon that she is.
