Alessi Rose, a pop singer songwriter, recently released her new single ‘imsochillandcool’ on October 23rd to the excitement of fans. ‘imsochillandcool’ is a song heavily laced in reality, Alessi doesn’t sugarcoat a situationship as something exciting or almost forbidden, instead she exposes it for its cruel heartbreak. The single is a tale of sleepless nights of love sickness, the taste of worthlessness still lingering in your mouth after finding yourself seemingly disposable. You can’t be chill or cool about this painstaking heartbreak as you know that you are worth so much more then a small man and the girl he rebounds with. Alessi perfectly describes the song and it’s relatability as ‘an ode to those feelings that no one wants to admit too, but realistically we are all feeling them.’

The track opens with an aggressive acoustic guitar giving the song an angsty folk sound that adds a further frustration to the already angry and ironic lyricism. Alessi has a vibe reminiscent of pop artists like Olivia Rodrigo, with those raw vocals and relatable lyrics that draw listeners in, leaving them obsessed and unable to leave their music.

The single bursts open in the chorus with the lyrics, ‘but I know that you’re out getting drunk at her house and you’re naming your kids. While I’m biding my time and denying the signs, I swear that I’m so over it.’ This moment is a cacophony of internalised anger and delicious sarcasm, conveying when you feel like you’re losing the war of who can move on the fastest. He’s already got a new girl who’s pretty and ‘digestible’ and basically you in a different font, and you just want to scream from the rooftops that you know that you deserved better and that you’re fine without him. Yet your heart is still broken.

The standout lyrics can be found in the second verse when Alessi sings, ‘my fragility sucks I could spill out my guts just to get your attention. Looking back you’ll call me romantic.’ This moment presents the frustration that comes with the death of a situationship, he was technically never really yours, so you deny your pain but in reality you are still mourning this loss. It hurts that you were so easily cast aside, but you also want to hide this pain so he doesn’t have anything to feed his narcissism.

‘imsochillandcool’ is for the sarcastic girls who hide behind humour instead of facing their sadness. For the frustrated girls who reflect on past relationships to save themselves from making the same mistakes again. ‘imsochillandcool’ is for the girls who hide their heartbreak to save face after falling for a man who thinks he’s great but will always be small.
