CMAT unveils a new level of catharsis in her artistry with new single ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’

by Cara Maclean

International pop sensation, CMAT, has brought a number of new singles to the table as her much anticipated upcoming album, ‘Euro-Country’, is set to release 29th August.

Renowned for her theatrical stage presence and extraordinary vocals, she never ceases to disappoint. Blending humour with catchy melodies and her distinctive country-twang, she is undoubtedly one of the best performers around.

Following the releases of her first two singles off ‘Euro-Country’, ‘Running/ Planning’ and ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’, CMAT’s music has soared. The dreamy acoustics of ‘Running/ Planning’ and unmistaken rage adds layers of vunrability and tension to CMAT’s music which we have experienced in previous albums. ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’, or more recently labelled as “the woke Macarena”, details her recent experience of scrutiny online surrounding appearances. ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’ is a deep dive into the struggles of womanhood in which many contort themselves into something that fits “commercial attractiveness”. However, CMAT continues to prove as an inspiration to young women as she rejects this behaviour and owns the stage night after night.

‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’ is certainly no exception and maintains to be yet another outstanding single. Bursting with cathartic, raw vocals and her signature witty lyricism, the track is captivating piece on the irrationality of hatred.

CMAT states: “It is not a diss song about Jamie Oliver. It’s about how my annoyance and intolerance and hatred of other people serves absolutely no purpose in my life. It’s me being like, ‘don’t be a bitch and stop judging people for annoyances.’ So it’s actually a love song for Jamie Oliver, if you think about it.”

You can catch CMAT live at Glastonbury at the Pyramid Stage next week alongside her ‘very sexy CMAT band’ on Friday 27th at 1:30pm, where it will undoubtedly be another knockout!
